The recent listing of the former Copley Hospital property on South Lincoln Avenue in Aurora on the National Register of Historic Places was necessary for the planned renovation of the property, officials said.
The property needed the listing to keep its eligibility for state and federal tax credits, a necessary way Fox Valley Developers LLC is raising private money for the $128.5 million redevelopment.
The former hospital campus was one of 12 sites in Illinois that were added to the National Register of Historic Places during 2019. The listing was actually official in April 2019, but was announced just recently by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of properties that merit special attention and preservation. Every Illinois county has at least one property or historic district listed in the National Register.
